Diagnostics and analyses of hazardous waste
Sometimes the exact nature of the waste cannot be determined at the outset. In this case, SOS ENVIRO starts by identifying the nature and origin of the waste, notably by using local research of people that worked on the site. Once the waste is identified, we draw up a precise diagnosis of the polluted site.
Procedures and authorization requests
Absolute knowledge of national and international legislation governing hazardous waste enables SOS ENVIRO to put together a complete administrative file for the transport of waste between countries according to the Basel convention and the EC 1013/2006 regulations (cross-border documents, origin of waste...).
These files can be complex as they require the agreement of the countries of origin and destination, as well as that of countries whose roads or shipping waters are used to transport the waste. Our knowledge of the labyrinthine procedures of different administrations means we can provide all the assistance needed to obtain the necessary authorizations.
Training of personnel in the handling of toxic and hazardous waste
SOS ENVIRO improves human resources by recruiting and training local personnel that is accompanied by experienced specialists for the duration of the mission. In addition to the technical side of training for handling hazardous waste, we aim also to improve safety and promote a way of life that is more respectful of health and the environment.
Determining the technical solutions to be implemented
Every item of waste has its own solution. Waste, particularly when hazardous and toxic, is subject to particularly precise international coding and classification.
Every type of waste is governed by specific norms and requires dedicated solutions for the conditioning, transport and treatment. SOS ENVIRO determines the specific technical procedures and operational modes to be applied to waste on a site, while strictly following international norms and regulations.
Handling, de-conditioning, de-conditioning, sorting and reconditioning waste.
Waste is sorted by category according to the degree of danger it represents, its compatibility (no corrosive or inflammable elements in the same container, for example) and the type of treatment needed to eliminate it. It can then be safely conditioned. All barrels, Big Bags and containers are labeled according to the IMDG (International Maritime Dangerous Goods) code. Each container comes with a map of its contents and is sealed on the site in the presence of an SOS ENVIRO representative.
Decontamination of polluted industrial sites
SOS ENVIRO also handles the decontamination of storage areas and, if necessary, the excavation and elimination of polluted soil. The elimination is handled using a local network if it exists and if the level of danger allows it. Otherwise, the soil is transported, along with the waste, to elimination networks run by our specialized European partners. Our operations are always carried out in perfect cooperation with the relevant local authorities and bodies.
Transport
Containers are transported by companies certified for the transport of hazardous and toxic waste. SOS ENVIRO organizes the complete journey, from the site of origin to the destination(s), generally in Europe. This is done by land (by train or by certified ADR drivers) and/or by sea (shipped on vessels authorized to transport hazardous and toxic waste).
Elimination of waste
SOS ENVIRO works totally independently of the various suppliers in the waste elimination and treatment market. This is a considerable benefit as it enables the company to choose the very best elimination partner for each project. In most cases, the majority of the hazardous and toxic waste is treated in certified European centers in France, Germany, Belgium, Denmark or Holland.
